A dog's paradise: Panama Beach City Florida

Day 170
Ponce de Leon FL- Tallahassee FL

We have one full day left at Dead River Landing. There isn't a whole lot to do here. Cell phone signals come through but it won't upload anything. Gnats pester us throughout the day. Humidity clings to every square inch of our bodies. Time for a break. Perhaps a little vacation from our vacation. Pack up the dog and head south my friends. Eli needs to lay in the sand.

Dog beach is located between beach access points 55-57. It's just to the right of Pier Park and a much appreciated place to hang out. Beach front is usually a no go zone for four legged fur balls. Some members of the community got together and pleaded with city council to make a place for dogs to be with the rest of the family. It's a magical place where dogs live out the ultimate luxury of white sand beaches on the emerald coast.

The weather is less than ideal. Gray skies and a slight breeze makes the 68 degrees feel a bit chilly. Our hopes for a sunny getaway on the beach are far from here. Katie doesn't miss a beat. She slips on a hoodie and takes in the moment, regardless of the overcast conditions.

This was our view from the parking lot. Downtown panama beach will be left unexplored. The day is nearly done and we still need to swing by wally world for a few things.

Katie pops in for a few things and goes a little crazy with the shopping. Upon her return to the Jeep I see the realization in her eyes. "I forgot we had Eli with us". Yeah, the dog is taking up some space. He's a pretty chill dude and takes everything in stride. A bunch of beach accessories and a load of groceries is just another place for this old man to rest his head.

Penny is waiting for us upon our return. We greet her with a smile and get everything unloaded. Some time slips by as we decide whether or not to delve into the murky swamp waters. What about the gators?

Into the murky waters we slip our kayaks. A silent paddle through the swamp is an eerie experience. Both of us keep checking over our shoulders for alligators and bears. We are two Wisconsinites far from their comfort zone. You have to remember that this isn't a vacation, it's a lifestyle. We live here today. Life on the road.
