A flooded mess

Day 285
Streetsboro OH- Oregon OH

Rain through the night made our campground a muddy watery mess. Sprinkles continue through the morning as we head out the door. Eli needs to get out regardless of the weather and he drags us along for the walk every time. The campground was prepared for the relentless summer rains and put up signs to make sure the people paying rent don't mistake a water drainage hole for a lake.

We're slow to pack up and head out. Today is an easy drive to Toledo. A couple of hours west to our next state park. We've got a play-date scheduled with some friends in Illinois on the way home. A couple of months ago we picked a day to be home and I had to plan out all the stuff in the middle. For our last week on the road I thought it would be nice to travel short distances and stay for a couple nights at a time. In hindsight we should have drove straight through and arrived a week earlier, but I didn't know we would feel this way back then. The weather was also something we couldn't predict. Our two hour drive turned into a straight up rainstorm. Penny finds her way through the water and Maumee Bay State Park comes into view around 1 pm.

Katie and I split up for the next hour and head our own way. She leaves for a jog while I head out on the bicycle. The last couple of days have proven to take a toll on the psyche. I need to get away for some me time and head out towards Lake Eerie to ponder.

Maybe it's the weather, or maybe it's because we have traveled so much in the last two weeks, but I'm ready to spend a day without my beloved wife. Don't read to far into this my intrepid fans... she feels the same way. Six states, 1,200 miles, and rain every day locked both of us in a 32 foot box while dealing with the stress of new unknown surroundings. We both cling to the hope that next week the wheels stop turning and life starts the transition back to normal. There's just not enough space in a 240 sq ft area for us, Eli, and three cats. Alas, the rain is starting to come down. Time to go home and look out the window again. Only 7 more days of life on the road.

Travelling is one of the most exciting, interesting, and learning experiences a person can do in their lifetime. It makes you a far more well adjusted person, more open minded, independent, and confident. But spending extended time on the road has its ups and downs. It is tough and not what you seem in the movies. The good thing about it that it helps you grow as an individual. Living life on the open road makes you ponder a lot of things about your life. Thanks for sharing!
