A house with wheels

Day 258
Milford DE- Elverson PA

Moving every couple of days becomes a tiring affair. Everything in the house that isn't bolted down needs to be put away into a specific place so it doesn't tip over. Take everything you have on the kitchen counter and put it into a drawer or cabinet, and I mean everything. Now take a step outside and look around your patio. Chairs, grill, table and awnings need to be folded up and packed into compartments that are no wider than 2 feet. Walk over to the garage and roll the bicycles outside and strap them onto the back of your jeep. Put the kayaks on the roof and tie those down too. The motorcycle can't be left in the garage either. Load that onto the hitch of your house and strap it down so it won't fall off while driving down the highway. The jeep can't drive itself to Pennsylvania. Get out and hook that up behind the house. Your locomotive is now 55 feet long. Now take your house over to the sewer dump station and hook up 10 feet of hose. Pull the valves and drain your toilets and showers from the last 3 days because your house moves and it doesn't connect to pipes in the ground all the time. All set? Great. Set the GPS and start driving through traffic at 60 mph and turn off the freeway when you hit the state line. The freeway turns to narrow 2 lane highway and then into a road with no shoulders, no lines, and more hairpin turns than Pike's Peak. Only 100 miles left to go. Easy peasy.

You and your house arrive at the next piece of land you paid to park at. After forking over $138 in lot rent, you come to realize that the site you booked has 50 amp power but no water (which is really weird). Not a problem though. Luckily the house has a 75 gallon fresh water tank that can be filled up at the dump station. Wait... what? There's no fresh water near the dump station? That almost never happens. Unhook the Jeep and back up to a water spigot that is in front of the rental yurts. Hook up a hose and prepare to explain yourself to the park ranger why the house is in the middle of a handicap spot. When the water tank gets a full drive on over to your rental spot and back it in.

Put down hydraulic jack and make the house level is the first step to setting up in your new to you yard. Push some buttons and watch the house magically move the walls out to make some more space. Unpack the kitchen and set everything back up the way you like it for cooking. Then go outside and plug in the power you need for the house, set up the TV antenna, and get the leash out for the dog. Walk over to the jeep and take the bikes off. Know what, probably should pull the kayaks down too. You never know what kind of parking spot you'll find tomorrow in a city you have never seen. Unstrap the motorcycle and ease it down the ramp. Last on the list is the patio. Get out your chairs, table and grill. Look around at everything you have accomplished today and savor the moment. In three more days you get to do it all over again. Life on the road. Could be worse.
