Today
Orr, MNSo this comment actually refers to last night (6/30/17). We were on our way out to voyageur national park in northern Minnesota and needed a place to sleep. We already spent two nights at a campground and we just started our trip. There is no way our shoestring budget will hold up with crazy spending habits like those. I busted out my samsung s7 and started looking for a place to boondock (free camping with no electric/water/sewer). We found a campsite that was supposed to be free according to the usda.gov website. Bad idea. We wound up 25 miles out of our way for a free place to stay. This we expected. What we weren't fully prepared for was the 2 mile road to the campsite that went from pavement to compacted gravel mixed with hard clay. It was raining. Clay turns to grease when it rains. It turns out driving a 40 ft RV that weighs 26k lbs pulling a 4k lb jeep behind it on street semi tires is not the best way to tackle a single lane road into the unkown. At one point the rear tires broke traction on the way up a hill. We saw it coming and hit it hard on the way to the climb. Roo was full throttle until about 35 mph when I started to ease off the gas in order to climb the hill. Not enough. Still broke the back loose. Then it happened.... I almost pooped myself. Luckily for everyone in the RV we made it to the campsite. Once there we realized we couldn't fit into the parking spaces and it wasn't free. We set up camp outside the boat launch in the small parking lot. Perfect. Well, that is for about an hour until some old craggy guy working for the state kicked us out. We packed up and headed back towards the pavement, in the rain, holding my poop.
