Going nowhere fast

Monroe WI- Fremont WI

The last month and a half of our lives has been a lot of effort into not much happening. Our goal of ending the trip was to find jobs, buy a home, and live out our days happily ever after. With the end of our travels came an end to the blog. I haven't plunked on these keys for 6 weeks because there isn't much to say. My days are spent looking for work while sitting outside gazing at the view.

Our search for home has been a busy one. Penny was cleaned and sold (we broke even on what we paid for her which is amazing). I've applied to nearly 60 different jobs and have only had about 6 call backs. Seems the glut in the economy has businesses well staffed and with better applicants than I. My shady resume shows large gaps in work with traveling in the middle. Not the best impression for a manufacturing production supervisor. Katie has been looking for things on and off to but is waiting until I land a spot first. First shift (day shift) work is hard to come by. I've been sticking to my guns and decline to interview for anything on 2nd or 3rd. Katie was smart enough to go into banking which means any job she gets will be when the sun is still shining.
The gaps in our days are filled with leaving my dad's basement and getting out to explore the new surroundings. Rolling green farmland is an absolute pleasure to ride through on the motorcycle. Small villages with smiling folks are sprinkled through this country land. Our nearest town is Monroe. Located on the far southwest corner of the state makes it feel isolated from the outside world. It's a nice place no doubt. Free music on Fridays has a way of bringing the townsfolk together.

With the absence of job action we take the path of opportunity. Katie's dad and my mom ( It's a super long story I covered earlier) have a marine dealership located in the east central part of the state. They have recently acquired another location and need some help with the building renovations. It's an opportunity for us to get off our butts and make some money. There is a catch. It is three hours away. Time to pack our things and relocate once again.

A sight for sore eyes
Relocate to where? The job is a temporary one. I'd say a couple months max. With the lack of a career path comes the lack of making commitment. We could buy a house and settle down in the area. Do we want that? Are we ready? Considering that option things are still difficult. We will not have a place to stay for two months while a house goes through the closing process. Renting for a few months with three pets is not an option. All rentals we found were for a year minimum. With the furry critters that rent runs over $1,000 a month. So we could either spend $12,000 to rent and lose all that equity or.......

Oh yes. We are going to be those people. Temporary jobs means we opted for temporary living. This 2011 travel trailer is 34 feet of our own personal space. At $11,000 it comes in just under a years rent. My old craggy 1997 chevy one ton will take up towing duties and deliver us to our new location. Fremont Wisconsin here come. A couple of months of work will go by and the outside temps will grow colder as winter sets in. If we don't secure jobs by the time that happens guess what we can do. This house has wheels. Texas is a nice place to spend some time. I've got a buddy in Houston who can throw me some work. Maybe Phoenix? Yeah.... we love the desert.
