Day 262
Elverson PA- Jersey CIty NJ

We roll out with good intentions. Today we shall leave the comfort and serenity of French Creek state park on the west side of Philly and head northeast to the city. I'm talking big city, the one who can be considered the grandest of them all. We're rolling our rig into the the NYC metropolitan with our sights set on living the urban lifestyle.

The NYC skyline comes into view as we rumble down highway 78 on our way to the RV park in Jersey City New Jersey. A far cry from the woods, mountains, and desert we have become accustomed too. Most of our city stays have been kept to a couple of days and none of them have been to this magnitude.

Penny exits from the highway after paying the $12 toll and turns into downtown Jersey City. Less than a mile of city traffic seperates us from our parking spot. The drive in was easy. No drama or stress at all.

Check in was less than exciting. Most RV parks greet us with a zealous amount of rambunction. The lady at the front desk was plenty nice, but we were told if the motorcycle comes off the RV it would be $35 a day add on to our bill. The "Extra" vehicle charge is non-negotiable. Forget to check out on your departure day? That's a $40 fee. Don't leave before 11 am on departure day? That's a $50 fee. This is the only RV park within 40 miles of the city and they know it. It's one of those things you just have to let go. Learn to pick your battles, and this one wasn't worth it. Penny gets slid into her spot and we have enough room for the jeep and a couple of chairs. One of the more cramped RV parks we have been to but hey, this is the city. No big deal. We only spent, wait for it, $110 a night to stay in a parking lot with water and electric service.

After out set up it's off on the usual business. Eli needs to get out and establish his new home. That means smelling a thousand new piles of dog pee and leaving a droplet or two of his own on every single spot. Another reason to get out is to see the surroundings for ourselves. We found a spot for the dog to go do his thing and that is a relief. He can now take care of business with Jersey City as his backdrop.

With no time to lose we pick our first adventure in the city. Tomorrow we head to the Statue of Liberty and don't know where to go. Our little bicycles come in handy as we head about a mile away from home down the bike path to Liberty Harbor park.

A great idea this turned out to be. We found our check in spot and a place to lock up the bikes. That means tomorrow we can cruise over here and hop right into line for our ferry. Our first true sight of the NYC skyline comes into view and it does not disappoint. This place looks like a postcard in real life. What an amazing view.

Looking down the tunnel of New Jersey's 9/11 memorial puts a cap on the day. We have no idea what to expect or what is going to happen. Little did we know what was in store for us on this trip. What a life. A life on the road.
