Day 1- Trip #3
Fremont WI- Des Moines IA

Picture
Nearly three months have passed. Katie and I have an interesting life and we are trying to get back into the real world. A lot has happened over this span of time. We are living in the trailer pictured above while performing a commercial building renovation for her dad. Let me break it down into a little more detail for you. I am still very much in the pursuit of finding a career as a production supervisor once again. It's what I know, it's what I like, and I'm good at it. I have only been applying to certain places and refuse to go work at a crappy business where I will be underpaid, under-appreciated, and unhappy. Money isn't everything. Finding a place that treats their employees well makes getting up in the morning a lot easier.
Katie meanwhile has finally completed her goal of joining the Army Reserves. You read that right. She has been working her butt off for the last 8 months to get in. During our last trip she decided to do something a little more with her life and thought this would be the right path for her. She studied for the ASVAB, started running on a regular basis, and completed all the pre-requisites to join.

So here we are. We haven't bought a home because we were waiting for answers. I'm waiting for the right job, and Katie was waiting to find out if she would join the Army. Winter has draped her cold fingers around us and we physically cannot stay in Wisconsin anymore. Don't get me wrong, we want to buy a house and have a place to call home. That can't be done until we secure an income. Our options are limited. Katie ships out January 6th 2020 and I will be on my own until the end of May. We have one more month together before she leaves. It's freezing cold here. Our house has wheels. Decisions have been made and we opt for sunshine on our shoulders. For the third time in our lives we will migrate with the birds and head south. If you are a prospective employer reading this listen to what I am saying now. I will be back in January, please give me the job I applied for.

The new freight train stopped for lunch in Minnesota.
We roll out the only way we know how. Full of hope and sketchy at best. My old truck has never towed this heavy, or for this long. The trailer that follows hasn't been on the road for 4 years. Precautions have been taken to the best of my abilities. I'm pretty thorough when it comes to preventative maintenance but there is only so much you can do. The road will decide what is good enough. After all, it's 1,850 miles to Phoenix from Wisconsin. Why Phoenix instead of Texas or Florida? That's a good question. It's almost twice as far and has some mountains in the way. The answer is simple. Thanksgiving dinner at Katies's aunt and uncles house is a party not to be missed. Hold our spot at the table you guys.... we are on our way.
