Day 153
Baytown TX- Creole LA

Excited nervousness. That's the best way to describe leaving Baytown. Spending two months getting to know your surroundings has a strange effect. You know where the loaves of bread are at the grocery store you like. Need some gas? Hit up the Valero on Baker street for the best price. It's on the way to work anyway. Life easily starts to settle into a routine and the most mundane tasks become muscle memory.

Traveling is supposed to be about thrill and excitement. The unknown of what lies around the corner. I need this back into my life. We are out to see this country and dammit we are going to finish what we set out to do. Head east Penny, take us to Louisiana.

Low lying bayou swamps come into view just 100 miles outside of Houston. We turn south and head towards the ocean for some free parking. The elevation on the GPS reads 10. Yeah, just 10 feet above sea level and we still have 20 miles until the coast. What does a hill in Louisiana look like? A concrete bridge over a shipping channel that's what.

Rutherford beach is a sight for sore eyes. A little piece of RV boondocking at it's best. Feel free to pull into the parking lot or right onto the beach for some free camping. Just don't expect too much. The winter season blows in warm humid air off the gulf which collides with the cold air from the land. You can only see a couple of hundred feet off into the distance. It's in the mid 60's with 100% humidity.

This tiny community appears to be mostly part time folks who are only here to get away from it all. There is one downfall to this place though. Nightfall began to set in and out came the mosquitoes. Not a couple either. Hundreds of mosquitoes all looking for a way to get through the cracks and into our home. It's easy to do when the front door has to open for Eli to do his business. Katie and I spend the next hour swatting the little buzzers out of the air. Life in the Louisiana bayous... could be worse.
