Day 175
Inverness FL

Last night will go down as one of our best night's sleep since rejoining the road after Texas. We had one pair of neighbors show up and pitch a tent.  Tempertures remained in the low 60's but the humidity stay in the upper 80's. A bit sticky, but still a pleasant night to have the windows open and fall asleep listening to the swamp birds and frogs sing to each other.

Keeping myself occupied is a constant task. Katie is pretty chill about it. She can sit in a chair and look out into the wilderness for an hour without anything to pre-occupy her. I'm good for about four or five minutes until I'm so bored I have to do something. There isn't a whole lot to do. No cell signal means I can't work on the blog, check the news, or look up random car trivia. Watch TV you say? I was able to position the extra antenna we have just right so we get 3 channels. At least it's something. Shirley still needs a leaky axle seal fixed but the weather is deciding otherwise. That project will take me at least a full day and it needs to be sunny when it happens. Perhaps a scary walk into the unknown wilderness will pass the time.

It doesn't look scary. Just another wet woods. It feels spooky though. Every crackling branch noise makes us both look around while walking. Being in an environment that isn't home really puts your senses on alert. Southern Florida has 160 pound panthers and 300 pound black bears. We are in a natural preserve, this is where they would call home. So every time I hear a branch break it makes me think of my limbs being in that critters mouth. I'm a walking pile of lunch meat. The rain starts to drizzle in and we head home for lunch. Soon after I come up with the bright idea to go to town and look for some cell signal. We have the time and I am way behind on this blog.

There's something you don't see in the north
Shirley gets loaded up and takes us on a 15 minute ride to town. That's all we need for our phones to find some sweet 4G signal. Finding a place to park and work is a different story. We drive around aimlessly for 30 minutes checking out spots to go. The local park is closed. The library doesn't get any 4G in the parking lot. Another campground down the road is 5 miles out of town with no signal. Jeez, how hard can it be?

On our way home we arrive at a small park we at first drove past. It's behind the Sheriff's office. The rain is coming down but Eli doesn't mind.
Picture
Sloppily we head towards a small pavilion with a picnic table. A half mile walk in the rain just to sit down and have a cell signal. We never would have thought it would be a problem on this side of the US.

Welcome to my office
I crack open the laptop and get started. Nothing has been easy the last few days with our technology. Let's face facts. I'm getting old and things are starting to frustrate me. My Chromebook will no longer load my web editor and the laptop won't connect to my phone for pictures. It takes an hour to make one small short post.  Sigh... let's go home. It's almost 5 and we need to make dinner. At least I don't have to work tomorrow. Could be worse.
