Day 280
Fisher's Landing NY- Youngstown NY

On the road again. Today we need to click off another 237 miles. Leaving our cozy spot along the St. Lawrence River is a tough pill to swallow. It was nice to lounge about and look at the river in such a nice setting. That's not going to get us home though. No, we need to hit the road and swallow up some asphalt to get a little closer to southern Wisconsin. We roll out with our keen watchdog on the lookout for trouble.

We get about and hour and a half out before the first pit stop of the day. I've got a phone interview scheduled for 1130 and don't want to take any chances of missing it. Penny slides into the back of a Wal-Mart parking lot so I can get off the road and be ready. I can honestly say it's the first time I've ever had a phone interview while sitting in a parking lot. It's all part of living on the road. We have been outside our comfort zone for 10 months.
Back to the road with 3 more hours to go. New York tries to suck off some more money by charging outrageous amounts for taking the highway. No worries here. We turn onto some local state roads and take our time meandering through small towns on our way to Four Mile Creek State Park.

A park meant for camping only. Kind of weird, but kinda nice. It's been raining here a lot and the grounds show it. Multiple spots are flooded and even more are rutted up from campers trying to get in or get out. Our reserved spot looks pretty soft. I don't want to park there and the office is closed. There's a map of walk up onl available spots and one of them looks high and dry. We'll set up home here and change our reservation in the morning. Eli wants out. The old chap is sick of sitting around on his bed. He leads the way towards the lake.

Lake Ontario laps against the shoreline. There is no swimming, no boat launches, and no picnic tables nearby. This water is for looking at only. No matter, we've got plans for tomorrow. I hear there is a waterfall or two nearby.
